Check ICE Detainee Releases

To find someone released from ICE detention after leaving Lemhi County Jail, first confirm whether immigration officers actually took custody. No official source establishes an ICE detention center or detention contract in Lemhi County. A county departure tied to an immigration detainer may be a transfer into federal civil custody, not release to the community. The Lemhi County jail disposition identifies the sending event. The ICE Online Detainee Locator System and detention information channels then help trace current custody or a limited recent release, subject to strict identity and timing limits.

ICE Transfers from Lemhi County

An immigration detainer is a request that a jail notify ICE before release and keep custody for up to 48 hours beyond the otherwise applicable release time so ICE can assume custody. The detainer is not itself ICE detention, a criminal conviction, or a deportation order. Actual custody changes only if ICE takes control.

A Lemhi jail record may describe its own event as release or transfer even when the person did not enter the community. Ask the Sheriff for the destination and receiving agency. If ICE is named, use the federal immigration locator. If no transfer is documented, do not infer one from citizenship, birthplace, name, or silence in another database.

Record What it can establish Limit
Lemhi jail disposition County departure, date, type, destination May not show later ICE result
ICE ODLS Current location or limited recent-release match Not a permanent history
Immigration court/case source Proceeding or order information Not physical release time
ICE detention line Locator and detention guidance Identity and disclosure limits apply

Search an ICE Release Record

The ICE Online Detainee Locator System, or ODLS, focuses on people currently in ICE custody. ICE attorney guidance also describes coverage for people released from ICE within the last 60 days. That does not make it a permanent release archive. A person outside that period may no longer appear.

  1. Use the A-number route when known. Enter nine digits, adding leading zeros if needed, and choose the correct country of birth.
  2. Otherwise use the exact first and last name, country of birth, and birth date where available.
  3. Match spelling, order, spaces, and hyphenation carefully. Do not accept a result from name alone.
  4. Read the reported detention location and contact information, then call the facility or ICE channel to confirm current status.
  5. If no result appears, return to the Lemhi disposition and seek the named receiving agency rather than assuming community release.
No ODLS result is not proof of release. Timing, spelling, age, exclusion, transfer, or a lack of ICE custody can all produce no match.

ICE Detainee Contact Route

ICE operates a national detention network, not a Lemhi County facility identified by this research. ODLS is the first official check. The ICE detention management page provides national detention-information and locator guidance when the online search is not enough.

The exact facility shown by ODLS is the contact point for physical custody. An Enforcement and Removal Operations field office can address federal routing. Lemhi County Jail remains the custodian for its own transfer entry and cannot certify a later ICE release that another agency processed.

Lemhi Jail Transfer Evidence

Call the Lemhi County Sheriff non-emergency line at 208-756-8980 and ask whether the person was released to the community or transferred, on what date, and to which agency. For a written chain, submit the county public-record form and identify the Sheriff/Jail as the department. Seek the booking and release or transfer entry, destination, and receiving agency where releasable.

The local contact is 206 Courthouse Drive, Salmon, Idaho 83467. The main Sheriff number is 208-742-1680. Published weekday office hours are 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., but those are not release or transfer hours. No official local release-processing schedule was found.

The Lemhi County release-record process also shows when to check iCourt, VINE, IDOC, or BOP. VINE does not cover federal BOP custody and should not be assumed to provide a complete ICE history.

ICE Release Versus Transfer

Three events can occur in sequence. First, a state court or jail basis for Lemhi custody ends. Second, ICE may accept the person under federal civil authority. Third, ICE may later release, transfer, or otherwise resolve detention. Each agency records only its own event.

A court release order does not cancel another valid hold by itself. Likewise, ICE release does not rewrite the earlier Lemhi booking. Keep the county disposition, ICE result, and any proceeding record separate. Use exact terms rather than calling the whole chain a single release.

Immigration detainer
A request for notice and short continued jail custody so ICE may assume control.
ICE custody
Federal civil detention after ICE accepts the person.
Community release
Physical confinement ended without a receiving custodian taking control.
Transfer
Physical custody moved from one agency or facility to another.

ODLS Timing and Identity Limits

ODLS depends on exact identifying data. An A-number must be formatted correctly, and country of birth is required for that route. A biographical query is sensitive to name spelling and hyphenation. Minors and some categories may not appear. A transfer can also create a lag.

Save the query method, exact source label, date, and time. Do not retain more personal data than the release check requires. When the record is uncertain, call the listed facility or detention channel and preserve the uncertainty instead of joining two people’s records.

ICE ODLS and the BOP locator are not interchangeable. BOP holds historic federal prison information from 1982 onward. ODLS is centered on current civil immigration detention and a short recent-release window. A person may appear in one, both at different times, or neither, depending on the custody path.

A recent-release match in ODLS should still be confirmed with the reporting detention facility or Enforcement and Removal Operations channel. The locator is not the legal release certificate. Ask for the event date, type, and destination where disclosure rules allow. An immigration proceeding record can explain the legal action, but it may not show when physical processing occurred.

Do not equate immigration bond or another release order with a completed exit. Administrative processing, transportation, a separate hold, or transfer can follow the legal decision. The same distinction applies at Lemhi County Jail: an order supplies authority, while the custodian’s dated disposition records the actual handoff or community release. Keep the two records paired.

When neither ODLS nor another search returns a match, preserve the uncertainty. Return to the last confirmed custodian and trace the named next agency. A negative result is limited by the time searched, spelling, country of birth, identifiers, recent-release window, and categories the system displays. It cannot prove that the person was never detained or that community release occurred.

The A-number route and biographical route should not be blended carelessly. An A-number search requires the number and country of birth, while the biographical search relies on exact name data and country of birth, with a birth date where available. If one route fails, recheck the source document for transposed digits, leading zeros, spacing, and hyphenation before trying again. Save which route was used. That small record helps an ICE contact understand why an online result may differ from the known county transfer entry.

No local source establishes that Lemhi County runs an ICE contract or stand-alone immigration facility. Keep that deliberate limit in every inquiry. A person can leave the Lemhi jail for ICE custody without the county becoming an ICE detention operator, and ICE can use a facility far from Salmon. The named receiving agency and current ODLS location control, not a guess based on where county custody began.

Note: No official evidence found in the Lemhi research supports describing the county jail as an ICE detention facility or contract site.
